I was at this show. Most memorable, an awe inspiring performance indeed.
Mavis Staples’ and Levon Helm’s cover of Nina Simone’s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free" from Carry Me Home that was recorded at Levon’s barn in the summer of 2011 is out on Friday, May 20th.
I’ve watched a few of them, this is by far my favorite of the PostmodernJukebox live vids.

Up until a few minutes ago I never knew this uncut, full length footage of Old 97’s 1998 appearance on ACL existed.

Black Crowes on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night performing this Temptations cover from their new 1972 EP which is out tomorrow.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers covering Oh Well by Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac.

Or Peter Green himself:
From that time Drive-By Truckers and Slobberbone joined forces during SXSW to cover Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer.” I first saw this clip posted years ago on both the DBT’s and Slobberbone lists on Yahoo Groups well before there was anything like YouTube. I thought I might never see it again until someone dug it out of the cobwebs a few years ago and uploaded it to YouTube. So glad they did.
Two of my favs, Bonnie Raitt & Rickie Lee Jones covering John Prine.

On this day in 2008 I saw John Prine in concert for the sixth time. For this version of “Paradise” he joined forces with Old Crow Medicine Show.
One of my very favorite concerts I’ve ever seen was James at the 9:30 Club in DC in 2008 (speaking of concerts from that year). I’ve never seen a video from that show, but here’s one from 2010. I was not at this one unfortunately.
I’m pretty sure Kasey’s cover of this is what first put Fred Eaglesmith on my radar. It was on a promo EP called On the Road with Kasey Chambers that also included covers of songs by Crowded House, Son Volt, Lucinda Williams, and others. This performance from 2019 is the first time Kasey and Fred ever did this song together.
In this show from earlier this week at the Whiskey A Go Go the Crowes perform songs from their new 1972 EP followed by a set of songs from some of their earlier albums.
You Wear It Well awesome, haven’t heard a Rod Stewart song for a while.
