I have a tattoo I got over 20 years ago that simply says “Low” for the track I am heavily tattooed and would love a more obvious R.E.M. tattoo but just have never settled on something. I kind of like having my little tribute that is subtle and personal. But would love to hear what others have or get.
I don’t have any tattoos, but I did see this the other day and now I’m thinking if I did get a tattoo, that would be it
That is a cracker I really like it. I need to do some deep thinking on what else I want for them. I need to find space first and foremost
It is such a surreal blast from the past reading through this and reckognizing so many names and bits of people’s stories.
I’m Søren, and thought I was registered with my last Filskov back in the day, but after re-registering I realized I simply used to use my first name back then - “Soren”. Anyway, I’m not sure people would remember me anyway, as I was mostly lurking and adding bits and pieces and comments here and there. Never saw myself as a core feak/member in that sense.
I joined as a 15 year old in 1999 after I had spent a year trying to understand UP. Suddenly something clicked and I never looked back. In the 00’s we were a small group of danes running a danish R.E.M. website - www.wuxtry.dk - and that took a fair bit of my R.E.M. attention as well. I can’t believe how much time I had on my hands.
Oh my. I replied to Ethan’s tweet and told him I was semi-active on Murmurs for a while in the late 90s, early 00s (especially 1999) and still think fondly of some of the people, naming a few. Ethan replied: ”They are all back. Join us!”
So I took a peek and one of the very first names I see is Drew (from Chicago back then), that guy who played guitar and was into all the cool alt rock stuff. And there is Inspectorjason, that nice guy from Atlanta! Definitely remember phlmth and bizaleth! Many others ring a bell, too.
Oh yeah, who am I? I doubt any of you have any idea, and for the life of me I can’t even recall what my own username was. I think it might’ve been just Pasi (which is my real name) or PasiR. I lived in northern Finland back then and I live in southern Finland, near Helsinki, now. I work as freelance journalist, cranky old man turning 50 in a few days (just like Jason, I see).
Last night I was telling my wife that Murmurs is back (this is the second time I’ve tried explaining the site - the first was when I met up with Corper in SLC a few years ago) and she summarized it as “a bunch of middle aged people talking about when they weren’t so middle aged” then rolled her eyes so hard I’m sure it caused a tsunami somewhere.
Is she wrong though? I’ve collected all middle age hobbies myself.
No need to apologize for where we are, not that you did. We can Talk About The Passion, as we are granted another trip Around The Sun.
Nope. I couldn’t say a thing, just take my Centrum Silver and off to bed.
RedFrog, she’s right.
I went to the dentist a couple of weeks back and complained about some increased sensitivity in a few of my teeth. After taking a look, the dentist told me, “Your teeth look good. No cavities. You’re just getting old.”
Just getting old…. sigh
Try having a 12 year old comedy actor as your son. I’m so roasted I’m a burnt husk of a human.
She is. And, honestly, I’m ok with it. I loved Murmurs and it was such a perfect place for me back then - I was an angsty weirdo trying to figure out what I wanted out of life and Murmurs let me post my bad poetry, find new bands and just share a bunch of dumb inside jokes with people at the same time. I’m glad I’m not that person any more and, in some ways, feel like I’ve always been destined to be old (love of tweed jackets notwithstanding) but Murmurs helped me get there so it is great to reminisce a bit.
Ah yes, ageing… Last time I went for my lady check-up and told my tale of this feels wrong and that feels wrong, my gyno politely, but firmly told me that I’m absolutely fine, but at my age these things are to be expected. sigh I’m honestly not ready for any of that.
Hi everyone, I was LindyB back then. Still Lindy but been divorced, remarried, become a grandma to Abbie. Still (unfortunately) living in Scotland.
Soo many names I remember from the original Murmers.
It’s great to see you all.
PENNY!!!
Lindy!!! **** hug****
Omg this is great!!
WOO! I knew you’d come! Just said it yesterday!
Hey everybody!
I joined Murmurs as mandolinbryn when I was probably 14-year-old and stuck around for a few years.
I spent about a decade in Chicago doing digital marketing/creative on music festivals ‘n’ stuff, but these days I’m in the Philadelphia area.
Hey Bryn! Welcome home.
