I’m listening to Richard Hawley, who first came to my attention when I saw him supporting R.E.M. in 2005.

R.E.M. were always good at picking support bands. Can’t think of many that I didn’t enjoy. But the ones I really loved, and still love, are (in no particular order):

Belly
Michael Franti & Spearhead
Richard Hawley

PJ Harvey would be on this list, but those gigs were cancelled cos of Bill Berry’s aneurysm.

What bands did you discover supporting R.E.M.?

I learned about Radiohead from them being an opening band.
