I’m so happy murmurs is back, didn’t know if I was going to see people who come here ever again. To fill the empty void I joined the Facebook R.E.M. Fans United group, and went back to my abandoned Instagram account, only to be messaged out of the blue by an imposter, claiming to be a “public relations agent to Michael Stipe” and “carry out a random check up on a few of his fans and followers.” “On behalf of Michael Stipe Music” They were using a profile pic stolen from another account, and the name of a co-founder of an entertainment company. I reported this fake account to Instagram for pretending to be someone else. Got a message back saying the account doesn’t violate their communtiy guidelines. Can you believe that? I was appalled. So I searched and found the real person in the profile pic and messaged her and also the company the imposter was purporting to work for. I hope that fake account gets taken down. I hate these scamming frauds with a passion. It’s unfortunate, they are all over social media.

I checked out the REM Fans United page on Facebook to see if there was any news about Murmurs, and saw some posts from several of you, but I don’t post on public Facebook groups so I never replied to anything. If Murmurs really had gone down permanently I’d probably have sent people messages at least though.
I have seen that scam thing from other bands, much less famous than REM. I don’t know what the endgame is there or if anyone falls for it.
