Who were we back then?

Ah the preshow meet at the Spaghetti Factory was a blast! Almost as fun as the show itself!

It’s so nice to see so many familiar people! I was BitterLimeParakeet (or Keet) back then, too. I joined murmurs back in 2004, I think? It was when I was still in high school, after discovering R.E.M. with a friend of mine. When I was in college, I posted some silly R.E.M. comics I drew on the boards; there were obviously birds involved. I’m not sure if anyone remembers those.

I lived in Reading, Pennsylvania until 2021; we just moved to Delaware last year. I got married in 2016, and we got a bunch of chickens, which I had never kept before. I blame my husband for that, because he said that chickens are better than parrots. I’m sure he regrets that now, since we have 7 chickens, including one indoor chicken named Dr. Cluckenstein… and I still have two parrots. I’m also a support service worker, and a freelance artist. It’s so nice that the site is back again! I missed the forum format, Facebook just isn’t quite the same.

Hi Craig. How’s it going?

Hi Ethan. It’s going alright. In the middle of eating a banana that’s slightly too ripe. All good with you?

All good. Need to make it back to London soon. We just opened an artist showroom out there.

I forgot to add, I’m Prascilla and I actually don’t remember what my old username was. Maybe just my name? I’m in Spain now, I make it back to London when I can. So nice to see some of the old names here :relaxed:

Hi there. I was RSeabra then (Rodrigo), but these days I’ve been Gargumma in so many other places for so long, that I decided to rechristen myself properly. I was in Brazil, still am, but in a different city, married to my wife, have a son, own a house, and now I’ve been working as a book translator for over 10 years. I was basically a lurker for most of my permanence on Murmurs, but decided I should post more often in its last five years of existence. I’m that guy who makes R.E.M. posters, btw.

beccakay was my old user name so might as well keep it. I was a lurker at the old murmurs for a long time and then when I started posting I sometimes wouldn’t shut up! I see a lot of wonderful names and some good friends online again.

Thank you Ethan for bringing the R.E.M. community back together. And welcome to all the newbies.

Jason (inspectorjason) checking in. I used to post about The Cure and New Order, while also spending a lot of time in the Movies forum, even serving as a moderator from time to time. I will be turning 50 in a few days, and I own a home just north of Atlanta. I spend my free time trail running and spinning records, so life is mostly business as usual.
I started the R.E.M. Survivor craze on the forum two decades ago. Nobody remembers Survivor, but we all still remember R.E.M.
Back in the Murmurs heyday, I was politically conservative, and I used to ruffle feathers in the News and Events sub-forum. I switched sides circa 2014 or so, however, and have been voting liberal since then.
I am happy to see so many familiar Murmurs faces here, and am grateful that we are all healthy and still kicking.

Hiya - I’m pretty sure my old username was warmfuzzysocks, but I can’t remember… So I’m just socks now.

I’m Beth, from Michigan in the US. Back then I was a traveling college student, meeting feaks wherever and whenever I could. I was stupid and young, but I had a great time.

In the mean time - I got married in 2008, and now have 2 daughters, Charlotte (12) and Evelyn (5). I still live in Michigan. I went to nursing school, and worked as a nurse for 8ish years, but after the hell that is Covid gave me PTSD I quit in December. Since then I’ve been mostly knitting and spending time with my kids, though the travel bug is back again too and I’ve been starting to do that.

I’m glad to be able to poke back in here.

Matty - I will never forget you taking me to Pramen days in Prague. I think that’s what it was called. Somewhere I have a photo of us from there!

I’m David from the Seattle area. I joined the Murmurs/WeTalk community back in 1999 a few months before I first saw them live, during the lead up to the release of the MOTM OST. I ended up seeing R.E.M. live 4 times from 1999-2008. In the Murmurs community, I would run these semi-tongue-in-cheek “survivor” album contests in which people would vote off a song per week (plus a “zombie” round in which people vote a voted-off song back into the contest). Through the years I met Peter, Scott M. and Bill R. in person.

That was ages ago, but that era still resonates.

Since then, I went back to school to earn a master’s degree in electrical engineering. By day, I’m an engineer in the aerospace field. By night, a musician and producer.

Was Lois, am still Lois (although I had to create a new account because my email wasn’t recognised :frowning: )

Back in the Midlands of England now.

Edit: I’ve continued to live by my own philosophy of when the shit and bullets are flying, dodging the bullets, and cleaning the shit off later. I wonder if I can find my old self-made gif avatar. (I was so proud of that!)

My baby’s grown up and my new babies are already 6! Meet Jasper & Umi
