Great to see you here, DTE! Are you still in England, or did you move to the U.S. which you were thinking about doing?

Hey, you are the spice of this place
love you, friend
Totally new to the site and happy to be here. Greetings from Vermont!
Hey y’all,
Excited to see the rebirth of murmurs.com. My earliest memories of this place was when there were a few songs in Real Audio format. I wasn’t one to post a whole lot back in the day. I appreciated all the information on the tours and “the new album”.
Cheers!
I’m Jess, and I watched the site now and then in college but have absolutely no clue why I wasn’t active because this is totally my jam, and I’m so thankful to have a second chance at joining. My cousin bought me Automatic on cassette when I was in seventh grade and I have been immersed ever since. My now-husband passed the first date test because he had copies of Automatic and Monster in his car. Now, we have two kids who have been raised in the ways of R.E.M. appreciation. I’m a social media specialist in the Midwest, and just picked up the bass again after 20 or so years of life getting in the way. (Currently eyeing some Fender Mustang PJs.) Thanks for bringing the site back, Ethan. Excited to be here!
Back in the day hosting the real audio streams was a pain in the ass. Now it’d be easy.
Hey everyone! So great and crazy reading all those updates. I was/am Joni Smeke and I joined murmurs back in the 2nd half of 2000, right after graduating from high school, connecting via a 56.6 dial-up modem. Now it’s 2022, we’re in the midst of a global pandemic and I’m posting with my cell phone via Wi-Fi.
Back then I didn’t know it, but Joni apparently is somewhat of a unisex name which led to some hilarious consequences. Anyway in my case it’s a He/Him.
When I joined Murmurs I dreamed of being a film and TV editor - I kinda taught myself editing in highschool, and now it’s exactly what I’m doing now, being 39 years old, which is crazy. In a way you could say that professionally I’m now exactly what I wanted to be back then.
Besides that, I’m married to Flor, an ex-murmursian (Or Is ex-feak better?). She still got the Murmurs mousepad too. I’m very happy to read you all, it’s great to read those old nicknames and find out how’s everyone been. I’m connected to some on Facebook… But I haven’t been really active there in ages. It’s really not what it used to be, and it’s only getting worse. Anyway, I’m curious to see what this new reincarnation of Murmurs.com will bring - can’t wait for the opportunity to sell posts and band photos as NFTs! (j/k )
Hi Joni (and Flor!) Welcome home. Are you in Argentina or Israel now?
Argentina! Never went back to Israel since leaving in 2004, so in a way it’s like my life got split into two very different (and used to be equal in length) lifetimes. Now I’ve already lived more here than there, which I still can’t quite wrap my head around. I miss some things, people, places, my friends… And some others I’m glad to have left way behind.
Joni! Good to “see” you again!
I was unaware of the “semi sensible” part.
Dude! We need to bring back some of that zvizz and Froggy sass from the old days.
HI! Yes, still in England. I live in the Borders, Northumberland. Beautiful part of the world, surrounded by countryside. Hope you are well, it’s great to see you back
Cheeky twat!
Etty! Ahhhh, good times. I’ve missed you too!!
I don’t have children any more, they are now adults!
I’m tickety-boo, Ettster.
I do need to get in touch about Crowded House. I have lost the will to manage real life, but re-educating myself slowly.

Hi everyone. I was a member back on the original incarnation and went by Josey Wales. I decided to keep that user name as you can see.
Back then I was mainly posting on the film discussion threads and was busy on the trading side too. It’s funny seeing all the familiar user names, I never thought we’d be interacting again.
Well hello murmurs.com. Here I am down in Dorset on the sunny south coast of the UK. Known to my unimaginative mother simply as “Mark”, I spent my teenage years - the mid-90s - as an R.E.M. obsessive, and spent a whole lotta time hanging out on rec.music.rem in the day when Usenet was the place to be. Somehow life got in the way and I never managed to make my way to murmurs.com, but I’m grateful for the second chance - better late than never!
These days I’m a middle aged dad and CTO trying to reclaim his youth by buying R.E.M. t-shirts again, running twitter.com/imitationofrem (want a cover of every R.E.M. album track? In chronological order? Come browse the timeline!), recording bad covers of R.E.M. tracks myself at soundcloud.com/imitationofrem, and accidentally starting a small-time R.E.M. tribute band. Did I mention I like R.E.M.? Do you like R.E.M.? What a coincidence!
