Same to you!
You were definitely “Dream Brother.” I remember we were part of Music@Murmurs but I don’t think it ever really got off the ground. I was at Murmurs right up until Ethan pulled the plug. From what I can remember, traffic had slowed to a halt. It was also being inundated by spam bots. Since I had some sort of Moderator power because of Music@Murmurs I was able to delete the posts. At that point, I believe I was also among the few that were left.
I was Sibko as well back then and mainly hung around the bootleg section. I spent my time making coverart for REM bootlegs, posting them to my site remcoverstudio (long gone).
I live in Adelaide Australia.
I think about Murmurs a lot. It was social media before social media. I was a teenager when I joined. One that liked–I still do–the Lord of the Rings, so my username was Anarion. When I joined, I lived in a little town in the Netherlands, now I live in a little town in Texas, just outside of Austin. And there’s quite a bit in between.
I was one of the top posters for a while. In quantity, not quality. That’s for sure. I remember great chats in a German-language forum called Plauderecke. I was supposed to meet up with a few folks from Murmurs in Vienna. But that didn’t end up happening. One of them was named Christian, I believe, and he introduced me to the Counting Crows. I also remember getting some fantastic movie recommendations from someone who lived in Greece and had Amelie as her profile picture. All in all, and in a lot of ways, Murmurs was quite formative in my teenage years. The different perspectives and viewpoints, the great music and movie recommendations, and reading, sometimes very personal, experiences from people maybe 5 or 10 years older than me. It all stuck with me and shaped me.
I pretty much left Murmurs when life started to pick up and access to Internet was limited (you know, back when you had to go to an Internet cafe if you weren’t at your parent’s house). I left for Austria for a few months after High School. On day one in Vienna, I meet an American girl. We follow each other around Europe for a bit (Vienna, Innsbruck, Rome) and decide to move to London together. As you do as a 19-year-old who is in love. After 6 months in London, I decided I still needed to go to college and applied for a student visa in the US. We moved to Chicago where she lived before, I finished school, we got married, had a baby, moved to Texas to be close to family, had another baby, and 20 years or so flew by from that first meeting in Vienna.
Hey Leigh. Pardon the logo This should be way easier to manage than the Facebook group.
Hi Marc! I believe we had a drink together when I passed through the Netherlands eons ago. 2002 maybe?
Hey, there, my friend. Best wishes for y’all. Sloane
Hey there, my friend in music.
Hey I’m Alex. Never joined this site in the early days but would lurk occasionally. My first concert was R.E.M. with Luscious Jackson in Burgettstown, PA on 6/10/95. 19 years later, though dumb luck and a love of the subject matter, I made the R.E.M. By MTV doc. That’s me on the far right.
Hey Alex! Good to see you here.
Oh gosh, I’ve no idea, tbh! Your memory is clearly better than mine!!
I don’t think that was me! I believe there was a Mark from Rotterdam active in the forum? I think a few Dutchies met up, but I never did.
Honestly, I cannot remember who I was back then. However, I’m Cheryl still live in Philadelphia, PA. I work for a Metal Company in the Customer Service Department. Been there almost 3 years. Still love music, concerts, baseball, The Walking Dead, etc…
I have a dog, Shelby, she’ll be 13 in two weeks.
I’ve met so many people who are friends so I am glad this is back.

a support service worker, and a freelance artist. It’s so nice that the site is back again! I missed the forum format, Facebook just isn’t quite the same.
[/quote] Penny! Isn’t this surreal? I’m really grateful to Ethan and I think One Arpeggio Pete/ Astrid for getting this up and running. We’ve never needed it more the last 2 years were a swirling pool of nasties. It’s great to see you again. I am more or less yeeting FB from my life. I don’t trust it. It does things I’m not onboard with. But this? This is superb. XX wait, did I post in the wrong profile? Just to prove it’s me, huh. Parakeet, I remember you too. Good catching up.
ETA- my first misdirected post. It had to be me. Wait till the typos enter the mix. I still don’t get the intricacies of the world wide web.
You know you’re my inspiration, right? Just checking.
Wim? Where was Wim from? I think he came from that part of the world.
Wim is from Belgium.
Also, I wish I could say I contributed to firing this up again. I only shared the news and am delighted they reached you.
Well, smack my ass and call me anything you like. Remind me, we weren’t the mischievous twins back in the day, right? We were angelic and invariably we’ll behaved on murms. Fuck that, you were my ideal partner in crime. I have missed you so much, you reprobate! XX
Athfests! At least 3 or 4 of those. Live gigs that remain unparalleled by any other artist before or since. All the awesome people here.
Thanks for including my little photo in your movie. - Jordan
